They certainly do. Sometimes the materials and trims we use are the supporting actors in the stories we tell visually and sometimes they are the stars of the show. This season in the latest Fall 2022 shows it has been the latter. They are taking center stage along with the artisan techniques for applying them, which are very much magnifying the voices of their silhouette partners.
And particularly interesting is the mix between the very soft, lacy, and ethereal with the very smooth and sleek as we saw at Bottega Veneta, which by the way is a show not to mention in it’s own right. Sweater knits also play an interesting role in this juxtaposition as at Christian Dior, Altuzarra, and in all their delicate beauty at Gucci.
While most of us are not using the elevated, otherwise unapproachable ingredients that these designers are, there is a definite influence they have on what we do and the overall take we have on our own collections. After all, seeing the looks from the runway and street style is more accessible to our customers than ever. And generally, as is human nature, we want what we see.
